About the event
‘Light Up a Life’ is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and reflect on the year while remembering and celebrating the lives of the people who are special to us. This year is especially meaningful as it marks the end of our 40th year. This event is proudly supported by Westminster City Council and Lord's Cricket Ground.
- When: 9th December 2024 6pm - 9pm
- Where: St John’s Wood Church, Prince Albert Road, London NW8 7NE followed by a reception at Lord's Cricket Ground, St John's Wood Road, NW8 8QN
- Ticket Price: £10 per person
The event will begin at St John’s Wood Church with a multi-faith service including poems, readings, and music from local religious leaders, school children and members of our hospice. The service will then be followed by a reception at Lord’s Cricket Ground where there will be drinks, food, and entertainment.
This year, we are introducing our Tree of Lights which will be switched on at the reception at Lord’s, before being brought back to the hospice, where it will remain throughout the festive season. The Tree of Lights is a symbol of the light and love of our community and serves as a reminder of all the people we love who are sadly no longer with us. By purchasing a ticket or making a donation, you will automatically be contributing to the tree.
In addition, we will have a Book of Remembrance, where you can write a short message in dedication to a loved one. The book will be placed alongside the Tree of Lights, allowing you to add your message during the event. If you cannot attend the event but would like to add a message to the book, please email us at fundraising@hje.org.uk.
How your support helps
All funds raised through the event will go directly to our Winter Appeal which this year, aims at ensuring that no patient nor their family is left struggling to cope alone in the community.
Last year's event raised over £26,000 for our Winter Appeal, and with £35 funding a visit from a community nurse who can provide much-needed support at home, events such as these have a huge impact.
Below you can find more information on how your support can help:
- £10 could help fund our 24/7 telephone advice line so that patients and their families can always access specialist support and advice no matter the time of day.
- £35 could fund a visit from a community nurse who can provide much-needed support to patients and their families in their own homes.
- £50 could help fund specialist care in our Inpatient Unit whether that is helping to get a patient’s pain and symptoms under control, providing respite to family members or end-of-life care.
