Abseil terms and conditions

Thank you so much for your interest in abseiling down Senate House for St John’s Hospice on Saturday 5th October 2024. Before booking your place please read the terms and conditions set out below.

If you are not in good health, you should not participate.

Please note you cannot participate if you are:

  • Under 11 years old
  • Pregnant
  • Under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs.

If any of the following apply, you must seek professional medical advice before abseiling and sign a non-standard waiver:

  • High blood pressure
  • Heart condition
  • Suffer from dizziness or epilepsy
  • Damage to neck, back, spinal column, legs or eyes
  • Asthma
  • Medication – if you are taking any form of prescribed medication, please inform us of how this may affect you
  • Aged 50 years or above: we strongly advise that you seek medical advice prior to taking part.

The following points apply to all participants:

  • 11 to 15-year-olds require a parent or guardian to be present, sign permission and will be required to complete a non-standard waiver
  • If you have long hair, please be prepared to tie it up and out of the way
  • Maximum weight limit for a solo participant is 120kg (18.9 stone)
  • Waist harnesses fit waist size of 40cm (15.7 inches) to 125cm (49.2 inches).

Booking terms and conditions

Participant Cancellation:

  1. Cancellation Policy: a. All cancellations must be made in accordance with the termsoutlined herein. b. The cancellation policy applies to all entries booked through St John’s Hospice.
  2. Cancellation Process: To cancel an entry, customers must contact their challenge coordinator at St John’s Hospice. Cancellations made outside of regular business hours will be processed during the next available business day.
  3. Refund Policy: Refunds of the registration fee will be issued if an entry is cancelled prior to 06.08.2024. Any fundraising money will not be returned unless requested by an individual donor.
  4. Transferability: Entries may be transferred to a new holder under certain conditions and subject to approval by St John’s Hospice and Big Bang Promotions.
  5. Transfer Process: a.To transfer an entry to a new holder, the original place holder must submit a transfer request to St John’s Hospice along with the details of the new holder. All fundraising by the original holder will be valid for the new place holder but they are encouraged to fundraise in addition.
  6. Transfer Fee: a. A transfer fee may apply for transferring an entry to a new holder.The amount of the transfer fee will be determined by St John’s Hospice and communicated to the original ticket holder upon receipt of the transfer request. b. Transfer fees, if applicable, must be paid by the original entry holder prior to the completion of the transfer process.
  7. Responsibility of New Holder: a. Upon the successful transfer of a ticket, the new holder assumes all rights and responsibilities associated with the entry place. b. The new holder agrees to abide by the terms and conditions outlined above regarding the health warning and any applicable cancellation and refund policies.

Organiser Cancellation:

  1. Weather Dependent Activity: Abseiling is a weather-dependent activity and may be affected by adverse weather conditions. The safety of participants is our top priority, and decisions regarding the operation of abseiling activities will be made with consideration for weather conditions.
  2. Weather Assessment: Big Bang Promotions will assess weather conditions prior to the scheduled abseiling activity. In the event of inclement weather, Big Bang Promotions reserves the right to modify, reschedule, or cancel the abseiling activity to ensure the safety of all participants.
  3. Cancellation Due to Weather: If weather conditions are deemed unsafe for abseiling, Big Bang Promotions may cancel the activity. Participants will be notified of any cancellations due to weather conditions as soon as possible. In the event of cancellation due to weather, participants will be offered the option to reschedule the activity for a later date.
  4. Participant Responsibility: Participants are encouraged to check weather forecasts and dress appropriately for the expected weather conditions. Participants should be prepared for the possibility of weather-related changes to the abseiling activity schedule.
  5. Cancellation: If any other factors cause the organisers to deem the activity unsafe, Big Bang Promotions have the rights to cancel the activity. Participants will be notified of any cancellations as soon as possible. In the event of cancellation by Big Bang Promotions or St John’s Wood, participants will be offered the option to reschedule the activity for a later date.

Participants are required to sign a waiver of liability acknowledging the risks associated with abseiling on the day of the event. St John’s Hospice shall not be held liable for any injuries, damages, or losses resulting from participation in the abseiling activity, including those caused by adverse weather conditions.


By booking a place through St John’s Hospice, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to abide by the above terms and conditions regarding booking terms and conditions.
