Palliative Care Ambulance Service
St Johns Hospice has a dedicated Palliative Care Ambulance Service which was launched with the aim of enabling the transfer of patients from their homes to the Hospice when they are in need.
The Palliative Care Ambulance Service was the first of its kind in London. The number of patients supported by the service has steadily increased and with growing awareness of this project we are expecting numbers will rise still further.
We can respond very quickly to referrals and, in some cases, within a couple of hours from the initial request. The ambulance has made an enormous difference, especially for patients needing urgent transfer. In cases where admissions are at the end of day or during holiday periods it has been invaluable.
The ambulance service runs from Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm and we manage about three to five transfers a day.
With a dedicated team of ambulance drivers, the St John’s Hospice Palliative Care Ambulance has been specially fitted to provide the highest levels of comfort and support for patients. We are very grateful to The Derek Butler Trust for supporting this important aspect of our work.
