Support Our Marathon Runners

At the end of this week, 36,000 runners will be gearing up, ready to face the 26.2 miles of the iconic Virgin Money London Marathon. St John’s Hospice has had wonderful support from all of our charity placed runners, and we have been lucky to have a few other runners use their marathon places to raise extra money for the Hospice.
One of these runners is Jessica Meekel, a Senior Buyer Clerk at River Island. Jessica has fully grasped the challenge of the marathon– from holding bake sales and cocktail parties, juggling her job and undertaking a gruelling boxing and fitness regime, and she has raised nearly £3,000. For Jessica, "the training has been emotionally and physically demanding but… it’s so rewarding knowing that it’s all for charity."
Jessica’s motivation comes from her Uncle Joe. Jessica is fundraising in memory of her Uncle Joe who was diagnosed with terminal cancer and passed away last year in St John’s Hospice. After the care he received at the Hospice, Jessica decided to fundraise for St John’s in gratitude for everything the team did, "the staff were so friendly and kind to my family… the Hospice was a sanctuary for my Uncle Joe and our family."
Good luck Jessica – your Uncle would be so proud, thank you for all of your enthusiasm and efforts!
Have a look out for Jessica and our other marathon supporters Luis, Tim, Shiho, Nick, Tosihya, and Paul on Sunday 26th April. Come join the St John’s Hospice Cheer Squad at Jamie’s Italian in Canary Wharf to help cheer on this group of incredible fundraisers!
Good luck to all of our runners and everyone taking part in the Marathon Please visit our London Marathon page to support our other Marathon runners.
