Light Up A Life Raises Thousands For Hospice
- Created on Friday, 12 December 2014 12:37
Hundreds of people attended our annual Light up a Life event on Wednesday the 10th to make it the busiest and most successful to date raising over £20,000.
Every seat in St John’s Wood Church was full where guests enjoyed a moving service which represented the Christian, Jewish, Hindu and Muslim faiths. St John’s Wood choir opened the service with a beautiful rendition of Once in Royal David’s City followed by chanting from the Quaran by the Qadiri Rifai Ansari Sufi Order who attended the service for the very first time.
Christmas Carols, remembrance readings, prayer and chanting from Rabbi Mark Solomon and Deva Samaroo completed the service. With their candles lit, every guest walked from the church back to the Hospice where they were greeted by carols from the Sylvia Young Choir. The Chapel at the Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth was illuminated with snowflakes falling from the sky to the delight of everyone.
Danika, Danisha and Danielle Opouku sang a Gospel song and Christmas Carol, in memory of their father frank who passed away at the Hospice last year, before switching on the Christmas Tree Lights.
The Wall of stars was unveiled featuring personal dedications to loved ones. The Wall of Stars was displayed in the Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth until mid January 2015. You can view your messages from last year in the Book of Dedication in the Chapel and online here.

We hope you will join hundreds of others in supporting our Light Up A Life appeal. All proceeds provide care for patients and families at your local hospice. It costs more than £5million a year to offer our care without charge and we could not do it without the kindness and generosity of our supporters. Thank you.
