Volunteers Awarded at Special Event

In recognition of the hard work the volunteers do and their invaluable service to the Hospice, St John’s held a Volunteer Appreciation Day at the luxurious 5 star Montcalm Hotel in London. It was also an opportunity for volunteers to meet and get to know each other.
The event, held on the 25th June, was well attended by our volunteers from all areas including the Inpatient Unit, Day Care Centre, Charity Shop and Fundraising. The length of experience of the volunteers that attended varied immensely, from one who has just started their journey as a volunteer to one that started when the Hospice was established in 1984.
6 awards were given out for length of service by David Marshall, Chief Executive, to volunteers who have been with the Hospice for 5 and 10 years. Some heart felt speeches were given by our volunteers that touched a cord with everyone in the room.
After the event, one volunteer commented that..."it was a most enjoyable evening and very much appreciated .You gave us a great opportunity to be able to get to know you all better and a chance to meet up with other volunteers one has known over the years and to meet new ones, leaving one with the feeling one is part of a very large and special family. As a volunteer, I have always felt it to be a great privilege to be able to give time to the Hospice, so thank you for that!”
A special award was also presented to Vanessa Gorst for the amazing support she has given to the Hospice for being a volunteer for 30 years.
Canapés were served throughout the night as was the champagne. The entertainment for the night was a magician who amazed everyone with his tricks. At the end of the night, each volunteer left with a goody bag courtesy of John Lewis Oxford Street.
